Treatments for Male Pattern Baldness

Many people will have to face baldness at some point in their lives. While there are many causes of hair loss, the most common one is male pattern baldness. More than half of adult males will develop this condition in their lifetime. Because of how common it is, this condition is now considered somewhat normal. Aside from causing hair loss, it does not have other physical effects. While many adults come to accept being bald, some do not. Luckily for those who want to retain their hair, they can receive treatments which can restore their it. A hair transplant procedure can now be undergone by those who have male pattern baldness.

While male pattern baldness does not do any sort of harm to a person’s body, it may still decrease a person’s self-esteem and cause psychological damage. One way people can deal with this is by undergoing counseling or psychotherapy, but some do opt to undergo a hair transplant procedure instead. While the former might be the healthier choice in the long run, undergoing a hair transplant is not necessarily bad. Whatever a person chooses to do, it is important that he gets respected.

For early hair loss solutions, a hair transplant is not yet recommended. For these cases, drugs such as Minoxidil and Finasterade may be used. Minoxidil is considered a very safe treatment for early hair loss. How it works to prevent hair loss and promote hair growth is not understood. Regardless, it has been shown to be effective. The efficacy of Minoxidil lessens when it is used to treat large bald spots, however – in cases such as this, other treatments should be considered. For young men who are exhibiting hair loss, Minoxidil may be better than a hair transplant procedure.

There are many other potential treatments for male pattern baldness that are currently being studied. One such treatment is low level laser therapy. Although its proponents claims that it is very effective in treating baldness, evidence for its efficacy is currently limited.

There are many ways a person can deal with male pattern baldness. Whether he accepts it or tries to have it treated is up to him. What is important is that he knows that there are many treatment options he can avail of. Another thing that a person with male pattern baldness should know is that he should choose the treatment option which he thinks is right for him.
